Bite Correction in Berlin – Minimally Invasive Methods for a Relaxed Smile
Are you also grinding your way through life
Are your teeth worn down from grinding or clenching? Then you may be suffering from a collapsed bite. A reduced bite doesn’t just affect the appearance of your face. It can also lead to pain in the jaw, back, hips, or even the knees.
Are you experiencing these symptoms? Our KU64 specialists in aesthetic dentistry and functional diagnostics in Berlin are here to help. Through bite correction, they restore your natural bite height and help bring your entire body back into balance.
When Tooth Substance is Lost: Causes of a Collapsed Bite
More and more young patients are also affected by worn-down teeth, a condition known as an abrasion dentition.
The most common causes of progressive tooth wear are teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism).
Other contributing factors that may lead to a collapsed bite include:
- Stress
When under stress, many people experience not only a tense nervous system but also tension in their jaw muscles. Psycho-emotional stress is often unconsciously released at night through teeth grinding and clenching. This can generate enormous pressure. Over time, this doesn’t just wear down the enamel, it also affects the underlying dentin. - Misaligned Teeth and Imbalances in the Bite
Congenital tooth misalignments or gaps between teeth can also contribute to excessive tooth wear. In such cases, we recommend contacting our orthodontic specialists. They will create a personalized treatment plan to correct misalignments in the long term. Poorly fitted dental restorations can also lead to unnatural tooth wear. Incorrectly placed crowns, implants, bridges, fillings, dentures, or temporary restorations can cause imbalances in the bite and damage the surrounding teeth. - Lack of Prevention
Inadequate oral hygiene and diseases such as caries and periodontitis can destroy tooth structure and the periodontium at an early stage. The dangerous acid is stomach acid (acid reflux, vomiting), but Coca Cola and even very healthy foods (raw foods) can also contain a lot of acid. Poor eating habits also contribute to tooth abrasion. Acidic foods in particular can impair chewing function and lead to a loss of bite height if dental care is neglected.
Recognise the first signs & treat them in good time
You are in good hands at our dental practice in Berlin: our dentists specialise in functional diagnostics and are trained to recognise and treat a collapsed bite immediately after it occurs. Together, we will look for the causes and advise you on the most suitable treatment for you. This allows us to prevent further damage in a targeted manner, as night-time grinding and clenching has an impact on the entire body.
Bruxism and its Consequences
Worn teeth are often more sensitive to all stimuli (cold, heat, sweet foods, pressure). In addition, a lowered bite can lead to imbalances throughout the body. This is because clenching and grinding constantly strain the chewing muscles and facial muscles. They become tense and harden. Toothache, jaw joint pain and muscle tension (myopathy) are often the first signs of a lowered bite. In most cases, the discomfort radiates from the teeth to other areas of the body. The following symptoms often occur there:
- Tension headaches
- Neck, shoulder and back pain
- Earache
- Tinnitus
- Vision problems such as flickering vision, double vision accompanied by dizziness
- Difficulty swallowing in the morning due to poor circulation
- Pelvic misalignment
If left untreated, bruxism can lead to long-term problems with the temporomandibular joint (arthropathy), changes in the jaw muscles (myoarthropathy) and even chronic, inflammatory craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD).
Bite correction: holistic and individualised for better balance
If the upper and lower jaws are too far apart, a bite lift can help restore the balance between aesthetics, stability and functionality. Our dentists at KU64 Berlin take special care to include all teeth in a jaw in the treatment plan. This is because any change to a tooth automatically affects the position and function of the jaw joints. At the first signs of malocclusion and CMD, our dentists therefore emphasise a holistic approach that takes into account the patient’s entire body statics. Depending on your individual situation, we offer the following treatment options:
The Dros splint (stabilisation splint) provides relief
In cases of severely reduced bite height, we recommend that our patients undergo a therapeutic test phase before the final bite elevation. One option for this is the Dros stabilisation splint. It eliminates the problematic early contacts between the upper and lower teeth and trains the jaw joints to the new, healthy bite height. The Dros splint is custom-made by your dentist in our in-house certified dental laboratory as soon as the muscles have been relaxed through pre-treatment (JIG/Aqualizer, osteopathy).
Reconstruction with dentures
Once the jaw joints have adjusted to the new position, our dentists will insert the final dental prostheses. Depending on the wear and tear of the teeth, we use crowns, partial crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays or veneers made of all-ceramic material for the restoration. These not only ensure a natural appearance, but also long-lasting functionality. If there is little wear on the front teeth, veneers or partial crowns are sufficient for bite elevation.
A bite elevation is only promising in the long term if it is integrated into a holistic therapy concept. For this reason, our dentists work together with various interdisciplinary specialists (such as osteopaths, physiotherapists, orthopaedists and psychologists) for your well-being! In this way, our patients learn techniques that can contribute to lasting muscle relaxation.
Precise craftsmanship for a gentle bite
A bite lift requires sensitivity from everyone involved: in our dental practice, dentists, implantologists and dental technicians work hand in hand and coordinate their treatment steps perfectly. For a precise diagnosis and preparation of your teeth, our dentists use magnifying glasses with at least 4x magnification. The Smile Design dental laboratory also meets the highest precision standards. The dental technicians use the latest 3D programmes to plan your dentures.
Comprehensive service: a strong team of specialists for all eventualities
Correcting a bite is extremely complex. That is why we involve doctors and specialists from a wide range of fields in the treatment at our dental practice. Our team of specialists includes not only dentists, dental technicians, orthodontists and implantologists, but also radiologists, orthopaedists, ENT doctors, alternative practitioners, osteopaths and physiotherapists, who support us every step of the way during the treatment process. This enables us to offer our patients holistic therapy with successful results.

What is a collapsed bite?
In healthy teeth, the upper and lower jaws are in balanced proportion to each other. The jaw joints are stable and the masticatory muscles are relaxed. All lateral, canine and front teeth move harmoniously with each other when the lower jaw is opened and closed. Normally, the distance between the upper and lower jaws at rest is two to four millimetres. The two only touch briefly when swallowing.
If tooth structure is lost, the distance between the upper and lower jaws also increases. If the two are more than eight millimetres apart, this is referred to as a lowered bite. The teeth then often no longer make contact with their opposing teeth. In some cases, the inside of the tooth is exposed. The result: shortened front and canine teeth can no longer guide the bite harmoniously. Healthy occlusion is disrupted. The result: the chewing pattern develops from a functional vertical pattern to a horizontal pattern, similar to that of a ruminant.
Contact points in a healthy dentition become contact surfaces. It is important to note that ‘chewing power = force per area’. The larger the surface area, the harder the chewing muscles have to work to generate chewing performance. This causes the chewing muscles (and also the auxiliary chewing muscles) to hypertrophy. A self-reinforcing vicious circle is set in motion.
What is the solution? => Turn back time!
Hardly any other medical discipline can achieve what KU64 can do for your teeth. We can restore your chewing surface to its original height with perfect contact points. This means that your muscles are subjected to much less strain. The vicious circle is broken!
