HOW DOES INVISALIGN® WORK?
Similar to conventional braces, when opting for Invisalign®, we initially take photos, x-rays, and dental impressions at our practice to create a treatment plan. These data are sent to the manufacturer Align Technology, who converts them into a 3D digital representation. This allows our orthodontists to simulate the entire treatment process in 3D, visualizing the planned results individually. In other words, with Invisalign® technology, your smile can also become a “designer smile”!
USING INVISALIGN® FOR TEENAGERS AND ADULTS
Once we have virtually planned your treatment with you, you can view your dental alignment process in a 3D animation. Based on the gathered data, a series of clear “aligners” (from English “to align” – “straighten,” “arrange”) is custom-made. Invisalign® aligners are manufactured separately for the upper and lower jaw from lightweight plastic material, fitting precisely onto your teeth. Each Invisalign® aligner set is worn for at least two weeks, then replaced by a new set that slightly differs from the previous ones—thus gently moving your teeth into the desired position. You’ll be proud of the results and your new smile!
The duration of treatment with Invisalign® invisible aligners is determined by our dentists and orthodontists at the beginning of the treatment and varies in length and cost depending on the complexity of your specific case. Typically, Invisalign® treatment lasts six to 18 months.
Daily wear: 22 hours. Invisalign® aligners should only be removed during meals and oral hygiene. Approximately every two to three weeks, new aligners are provided (per jaw) until the treatment goal is achieved. Afterward, as with fixed braces, we recommend a retainer to maintain the results achieved with Invisalign® permanently.
Invisalign® aligners are also suitable for teenagers from the age of eleven who no longer have primary teeth, though teeth may still be erupting. This is accounted for in the aligner design. Invisalign® also delivers particularly effective results for recurrent, partial orthodontic treatments and crowded teeth, where not all teeth require fixed braces.
Adjustment period: It takes only a few days; afterward, Invisalign® is generally well tolerated. For teenagers (tailored Invisalign Teen® treatment), a color indicator shows whether the aligner has been worn for the required hours or days.
KU64 dental practice is an official Invisalign® provider and has achieved Platinum status for extensive use of the Invisalign® method. We’re happy to explain exactly how Invisalign® works!
