Teeth gnashing damages teeth and jaw joint

Cruncher protection rails help!

Anyone who feels pain in the jaw or jaw joint after sleep at night may have pressed or crunched their teeth violently in the previous hours. According to research by Us scientists, about 30 percent of all people squeeze their teeth at night and crunch – in dentistry, this is called bruxism. This is often caused by stress and mental stress, which are common today. Even children and adolescents crunch. Sometimes the crunch is even really loud. In the majority of cases, however, it is a silent pressing, which is no less destructive.

The consequences of nocturnal gnashing of teeth

The following consequences for patients are of concern:

• Abrasion of the teeth
• Easing
• Destruction of dentures
Morning pain in the jaw or jaw joint
• Headache
Muscle tension in the neck and neck area

What helps against teeth grinding?

Medications relieve the discomfort, but do not eliminate their causes. An effective symptomatic therapy is a bite rail, also known as a cruncher protection rail or crunching splint. This rail is similar to the mouthguard of a boxer and effectively protects your teeth from crunch damage. The bite rail does not prevent the gnashing of teeth per se, but significantly reduces the damage of bruxism to your teeth. What your teeth have been spared, you can often see after a few weeks or months on the rail!

The bite rail as a single piece

Impressions of the upper and lower jaws are required for the manufacture of the crunch protection rail. The rail is then individually manufactured and used by the dental technician. The first 7-10 nights, the crunch protection rail is usually perceived as annoying, because the usual ritual (nightly teeth pressing and crunching) does not work with the rail. But that changes after 7-10 nights. Then the so-called engram in the cactus culature is deleted and you sleep much more relaxed.

From now on, at least your valuable teeth are protected by the bite rail. However, such a rail does not replace the long-term treatment of the (lower) problem.

Alleviating causes instead of symptoms

Psychological-psychotherapeutic treatment can also be considered (in combination with a bite rail) in order to track down the nocturnal gnashing of teeth. Stress in the family or professional environment could be the cause. Please contact us in this regard – we will be happy to advise you on all questions in the field of functional diagnostics and in the field of craniomanbulary dysfunction (CMD).

Serious health problems caused by CMD

Often pain in the teeth, jaw joints, face, head or neck area, but also tension and pain in other parts of the support and musculoskeletal system of a patient can be attributed to a CMD up to tinnitus. Here you can find out more about CranioMandibulary Dysfunction and our therapy concept.
